From Sigma Swimming Club more than 100 people went to Herning to experience the European Championships on homeground. It was an amazing experience for all of us to follow the Danish swimmers and see them live in a big international competition. But especially for the club's younger swimmers, it was very motivational to see what their training can lead to in the future. We will definitely be there with many people in Copenhagen 2017.
In 2013 the multi arena Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning was filled with water. This time we turn to the new Royal Arena in Copenhagen and the LEN European Short Course Championships in swimming 2017 and the first international championship event in this beautiful arena. I am very much looking forward to this because Sport Event Denmark has been a part of the process of building both of the multi arenas and also because I think that the championships will become a great succes and a joy to Danish swimming, Copenhagen and Royal Arena.
The LEN European Short Course Championships 2017 will be the first sport event in Royal Arena, which both commits and challenges. With Royal Arena, the capital is given a scene where we can present world class swimming, ice hockey and handball for all Danes and many visiting international guests. The championships in swimming 2017 will contribute a great deal to the positioning of Copenhagen as a leading sport event city.
We are still in the top after the swimming party we created in Herning in 2013. Being able to once again invite swimmers and all of Denmark to an international swim meet on homefield is an immense pleasure.
It was a big experience together with thousands of spectators to experience the lights, music, entertainment, cameras everywhere and so on. And very nice to see the many kids and young swimmers, who got the chance to see the big stars. It would not have been possible for our club to organise a trip to the championships if the competition had not been held in Denmark.
I was very lucky to see the championships in Herning in 2013. It was an amazing experience to witness the impressive atmosphere in Boxen. I look forward to recreate the atmosphere in Royal Arena when we for the second time will host the LEN European Short Course Championships 13-17 December 2017.
It's fantastic that the European Short Course Championships are coming back to Denmark so soon. Herning was a great experience for our swimmers and a big boost for swimming in this country. I am sure that Copenhagen 2017 will give us a similar buzz.
